Kentucky v. Louisvile - 3:30 P.M. est Sunday (ESPN)
The Louisville Cardinals will try to erase the memories of a disappointing 6-6 2007 campaign when they take on big rival Kentucky in this contest. The Cardinals had no problems scoring points a season ago opening up with 165 in their first three games. However, as the season wore on, Louisville couldn’t keep people out their barn and that turned into a problem as their last three opponents averaged 44 points per game against them. Help should come in the form of nine returing starters on defense and a total 51 letterman on the team as a whole. Losing 4 year starting quarterback Brian Brohm will hurt but the big thing for Louisville has to be defense. Kentucky is in the same boat. They lost Heisman Trophy candidate Andre Woodson to graduation and will make the trip to Louisville with an inexperienced quarterback. However, they are returning eight starters on defense and they feel strongly about that group. For the first time in a long time, we may get somewhat of a defensive battle in a Kentucky v. Louisville matchup. Imagine that. In the end, I think Louisville is going to play this game with a chip on their shoulder and will be highly motivated to reverse last year’s result in Lexington. Take the Cardinals as small favorites.
