Do we really need Senate oversight of the Patriots?

This has been sticking in my mind for the past few days, why is Senator Arlen Spector sticking his nose (and it’s a big one!) into the NFL’s business with respect to the New England Patriots? I know Specter is an ardent Eagles fan but my good God, he’s a U.S. Senator not some knucklehead on his couch crying foul because the Patriots taped his beloved Eagles and then beat them in a Super Bowl. Even Andy Reid feels any potential taping had no impact on the outcome of the game.

More important than anything related to football is this; doesn’t our country have bigger issues for our Congress and Senate to worry about right now than pro football teams taping defensive signals and pitchers who may have used performance enhancing drugs? I mean let’s see we have an economy headed toward recession, we pay over $3 a gallon for gas, a war in Iraq that’s been ongoing for 5-years costing us in the billions of dollars….should I continue?

Specter along with his other friends on Capitol Hill are doing nothing more than grandstanding in front of the cameras and wasting our money. Let’s remember, many of these same people have numerous criminal offenses themselves. I mean let’s see Ted Kennedy, oh well he only drove a girl into a lake 40-years ago and then fled the scene of the crime. We have this other guy right now, his name escapes, who has been accused of soliciting gay sex in men’s bathrooms, I can’t even count how many of these guys have been arrested for drunken driving yet there they are self-righteous as hell pounding their firsts at Roger Clemens, Bill Bellichek or anyone else who will listen.

Here’s a thought ladies and gentlemen of the U.S Senate and Congress, fix our damn country and when it’s basically perfect, you can take a few weeks off and go fix our entertainment, which is what pro sports are. By the way, I saw that movie Striptease under the pretense that Demi Moore’s breasts were real, I was obviously duped; do you think I can get Specter to investigate that when he’s done with the Patriots?
